Date: 2022-01-08 11:40 am (UTC)From left to right and top to bottom on Steve's sketch pad: Ults, good ol' Shellhead, what was supposed to be Bleeding Edge Tony with his helmet removed but ended up looking like MCU Tony, 616 , Avengers Assemble, 616, 616 (okay I like 616 Tony a lot), 1872, EMH, MCU.
This is my attempt at a soulmate/reincarnation AU where all the universes are their previous life!
How I imagine this working is each universe ending and then another one starting. In this one Steve has been dreaming of all the past lives and trying to draw Tony but failing to grasp his facial features. Much to his surprise, one day coming back from art school he just happens to encounter --a very sad-- Tony who's taking the long route home after losing his parents.
While this is set in modern day and pre-serum/pre Iron Man, I do envision them both becoming their alter egos, as the universe would have it. Steve just has to make sure Ty doesn't get his hands on sad Tony this time. Go Steve!
I originally gave Tony his moustache, but it made him look too old. Anyway, I like the idea of him growing his facial hair to cover his baby face as he takes over Stark Industries.

Date: 2022-02-13 08:39 pm (UTC)You may have already seen "I Am Mother" (it's pretty popular + well known, I think), but oh man, I cannot rec it enough. I love it so much. I'm simply a robot lover. Red Notice was also pretty funny. Ryan Reynolds is a gem.
As for music, I stumbled across The Crane Wives recently and think you would really enjoy their songs! I've also been pretty into Cosmo Sheldrake recently.

Date: 2022-02-14 04:31 am (UTC)I do not know your taste in movies or songs but if you like lesbian movies one of my longtime faves is DEBS which is this absolutely ridiculous action/comedy movie about an all-female spy team, one of whom ends up falling in love with the Hot Supervillain, much to the disapproval of every other character in the movie. I'm not going to claim it's good but it's entertaining.
As for music, I have been listening to a lot of Brandi Carlile, who is one of those singer-songwriters kind of nebulously floating around the borders of folk, country, and Americana. Unusually -- at least as far as country singers go -- she's a lesbian, and at some point I'm going to finish this Steve/Tony Civil War playlist I'm making with her song Wherever Is Your Heart. (This would be in the happy Avengers Prime section of the playlist, not the angsty punching section.)
Also I feel a little weird reccing my own fic but as far as I can determine you have not read this one. So a while ago, I wrote Your Name On Every Wall which is (sorry!) partly set in Hickmanvengers but it's actually a fic where Steve hops backwards through his past into his past self's body and revisits basically every argument he has ever had with Tony. I can't think of any other "waking up in your past self's body" fics otherwise I would have recced those instead.

Have you see Mitchels Vs the Machines? It's super fun.
Have you seen the series Better Off Ted? It's insane and fun. Basically it's an office comedy in which the office is the R&D for a company that is clearly a comic book villain organization. Think The Office set in an AIM subsidiary. In the first episode, they have to figure out how to weaponize pumpkins. Because they have a deal with a small country that doesn't get enough respect from it's neighbors... but has a lot of pumpkins.

Date: 2022-02-15 02:51 am (UTC)Multiverse shenanigans for me always makes me go back to The Undone Universe by Teyke. It's MCU but it's...it's a lot happening. There's a lot of comics research that went into it too, and just a lot of research in general! It really feels like an epic, sprawling sci-fi and the first story in particular makes me feel so many 616 Steve feelings! It IS gen but it's really intense gen that, personally, makes me very happy as a Steve/Tony shipper!

May I please present Nathaniel Rateliff? You may have heard S.O.B. before, he did music as himself, and for the last while as Nathaniel Rateliff and the Night Sweats. According to Wikipedia his influences are described as folk, Americana and vintage rhythm & blues.
Paul Simon and also Simon and Garfunkel - oldies but goodies! Love their music so much! Kinda folksy lyrical music? World pop? Pop rock? I am terrible at describing music genres. But Simon's album Graceland has some songs in it that were co-created with South African musicians (during apartheid which makes it a controversial album). Anyway he's still going and I think it's been like 50 years? Maybe more. If you haven't listened to him or S&G give it a try!
Jose Gonzalez - Swedish indie folk singer-songwriter and guitarist, his music is really chill and the kind of thing you have on while it's raining and you're snuggling on the couch with chocolate?
Meat Loaf - sadly passed away recently, his music is rock and it's awesome and I love it unapologetically XD
LP - They wrote some songs for famous pop singers, but they also have some albums of their own. They identify as a lesbian and they have a gorgeous voice, honestly how do they not need to breathe for so long? Anyway, they do pop-rock.
Florence and the Machine is always a good time, and if you haven't heard Barns Courtenay's Glitter & Gold that means you haven't seen THIS INCREDIBLE FANVID which means you are missing out imho.
I tend to like older rockish music but they're pretty household names across the western world I reckon so I think I will leave it for now :) but hit me up if you want some more recs!
Movie recs:
Spiderman: into the Spiderverse (in case you haven't seen this, it's animated, has Miles Morales, and is hands down my favourite Spiderman movie ever. It's such a gorgeous comic book adaptation as well, and the animation and music is on point).
The Martian - astronaut gets stuck on Mars, alone! Science wins!
Stardust - a fantasy adventure coming of age fave, has younger Charlie Cox and Sir Ian McKellen narrates a bit at the start (read the book if you like the movie!)
The Princess Bride - a nostalgic fave, it's got kidnapping, true love, revenge, you name it. The book is also gold.
Le dîner de cons - a hilarious French comedy, you will cry for laughing. Dinner for Schmucks is based on it, but the French version is far far superior imo, it's just a different kind of humour.
La cage aux folles - another French comedy, this one is a lot campier, it's about the madness that occurs when the son of a gay couple who own a drag club brings his fiancée and her ultraconservative parents to meet the parents.
Priscilla, Queen of the Desert - queer Australian cult classic about 3 drag queens making their way to the centre of Aussie in a bus.
Memento - a twisty amnesia mystery-thriller movie from Christopher Nolan
The Grand Budapest Hotel - a beautiful Wes Anderson movie, a comedy-drama with Ralph Fiennes (of Voldemort and lots of other movie fame)
Pink Panther - there are a few, they're all amusing! Inspector Clouseau is an inept/bumbling detective who manages to save the day. The most recent one had Beyonce in it.
Most of Studio Ghibli's offerings: Howl's Moving Castle (love the book series by Dianna Wynne Jones!), Spirited Away, Ponyo, Kiki's Delivery Service, My Neighbour Totoro etc etc. Beautiful animation, a bit idyllic-rural-lifey.
Shrek and Kung Fu Panda are comfort movies, they're fun, animated, great for a rewatch.
Ocean's 8 if you want an all-woman heist movie! the other Ocean movies are also fun but they're very male-dominated.
Looop Lapeta - time loop movie where Savi has to save her bf's life and orchestrate getting 5 million rupees all in one afternoon. If you liked this, try Russian Doll, a time loop TV show! And also Edge of Tomorrow, a time loop movie with Emily Blunt and saving the world from aliens.

- Your Name (Kimi no Na wa) - time travel soulmates where two characters mysteriously body swap and fall in love as they get to know each other and the other person's life. After you watch this, please read citsiurtlanu's "I'll See You When I Fall Asleep," which is the 616 Steve/Tony AU of this film.
- When Harry Met Sally - FRIENDSHIPPPP. Fun! A het romcom that's actually good?! It's also funny and I love it a lot. Enemies-to-lovers! A meet-ugly where two people who hate each other suffer through a road trip from Chicago to New York, part ways, and then meet again and again...and become friends. And then friends who have feelings for each other.
I don't know if you're in the mood for serious stuff, but if you are:
- Do the Right Thing - It's sad that this feels so contemporary despite taking place in the late 1980s. This movie is a masterpiece and shook me to my core. It's such a good film about racial tensions, police brutality, etc. and also such a good study on how to ramp up tension steadily throughout a work.
- Judas and the Black Messiah - Daniel Kaluuya is on FIRE in this. I really wish this got to have a theatrical bow because it's powerful and moving, and UGH. THE CINEMATOGRAPHY?! Top notch.
- Arrival - A sci-fi film that made me cry! It moved me deeply and that score....please. Amy Adams. PLEASE!
Okay, enough of the serious films. For a good ol' rollicking time, Ocean's Eleven is a fun heist film with the whole "and our group of thieves is a found family" thing and you cannot walk away from this movie without firmly believing that Danny and Rusty are boyfriends. They are. They're an old married couple.
Fluff with notes of bittersweet underneath...okay, so this isn't a perfect film by any means, but if you like pining, secret identities (sort of), and a coming-of-age film focused on different variations of love from familial to platonic to romantic to self-love, then The Half of It is a cute little Cyrano-inspired film. Nerdy girl writes love letters to her crush on behalf of jock boy who likes said crush too and expresses her feelings for her through those letters. Jock boy and nerdy girl become unlikely best friends.
Some fic recs:
- "The Devil's Strand" - Woad (1940s mob soulmate AU)
Summary: 1940. Steve Rogers just wants to serve his country, but with a dead man’s name on his wrist the army will never take him. Soulmate marks can be removed, but so-called cures have already landed Steve in debt with the wrong sort of people, and it's hard enough to make ends meet waiting tables.
With a bad heart, Tony Stark, a capo in his father's mob, never dreamed he would serve his country. But when a ship sinks under mysterious circumstances, a special division of Navy Intelligence calls on Tony for his connections. He's never liked the family business, but he thinks maybe, just this once, he can manage to use it for good.
They meet by chance one night, when Steve knows him as only "Tony." But after Steve is pulled into mob business and meets the capo, their relationship becomes much more complicated.

Summary: Steve was like ghost, half here and half gone.
That Tony loved him had very little to do with anything.

Summary: Gregory and Tony Stark decide to compete for Steve’s affections. The winner gets Steve - and Manhattan.
- "Nothing Else but Miracles (An Ancient Secrets and New-born Dreams Remix)" - Muccamukk (616 Steve-centric Steve/Tony soulmates AU)
Summary: In the rough and tumble of the Lower East Side, the only constants in Steve's life are the solid black letters of the name on his wrist. Because even with the law and society against them, his world falling apart piece by piece, and his search for his soulmate taking him to stranger and wilder places, Steve has faith that finding Tony Stark is only a matter of time.
Making this list is really driving it home for me that I need to revisit old comic universe fics again because I've forgotten a lot of them over the years! But I hope you like these. :)
