(hi! nasafic here. happy holidays! I hope you enjoy this little fic - I really went full Established Relationship Domesticity on this one, haha. set in whatever universe you like!)

They’re halfway through what passes as a date, these days - McDonald’s takeout, scarfed down after a long day of meetings - when Tony says, “Ooh, you’ve got a huge pimple.” He sets down his burger, licks grease off of his thumb, and reaches forward. “Let me just -“

But Steve ducks away before he can touch. “Tony, no,” he complains. “We’re eating.”

“Aw, come on, please?” Tony doesn’t wait for Steve’s assent, getting his thumbs on either side of the pimple on Steve’s jaw and squeezing. Steve huffs but doesn’t stop him, waiting impatiently as Tony squeezes at his zit.

“Ow,” he says, then, “Ow,” again, more pointedly, as the pain spikes. Tony frowns, but he drops his hands, and the sharp sting drops to an ache.

“It’s really stuck in there,” he says. “I should go get my lancing kit.”

“Oh, god. Is it really that urgent?”

“I don’t know, is my happiness urgent to you?” Tony butts back, but he picks up his burger and sits back down on his stool.

“We need to get you one of those pimple-popping games,” Steve says. “The ones they make for perverted minds like yours.”

“Eh,” Tony says around a mouthful of Big Mac. “You have to refill those after every pop. It’s not worth it.”

“Oh, as opposed to my face, which is self-filling?” Steve asks dryly.

“Until you listen to me and start using my face wash, yes,” Tony says. “Of course, I could make my own pimple-popping tool, that is self-filling - Jarvis, put that on the list, won’t you, next time I’m drunk and feeling crafty, I’ll look at it.”

“Noted, sir,” Jarvis says smoothly.

“And in the meantime,” Tony says, swaying to the right so he’s half leaning against Steve. “I have my own personal pimple board to mess with. Speaking of, have you done a pore strip recently? You’ve got a lot of blackheads on your nose, there. I promise it won’t hurt.”

“Maybe I should try that face cream after all,” Steve grumbles, but when Tony goes to scratch a dead skin flake off Steve’s cheek, he just sighs and lets him.

The things he does for love.

Oh my godddd I love this. It’s so ridiculous and such a funny image. Also soooo domestic. The fact that Steve hardly protests and just goes with it, because this is just Tony. Thank you so much <333

Happy wintertime! I don't have much, but I do have a couple of recs!

My favorite queer movie of all time is Saving Face. It's...okay, it sounds like a bummer if I write out a plot summary, but trust me when I tell you that this movie is so funny. It's about a sort-of closeted doctor and her relationship with her mother. It's about being Chinese-American and being too much of a dork to have an actual conversation with your crush. It's about the pressures put on a person by their community, their family, and the pressures they put on themselves. It's just really sweet and I want everyone to watch it ;_;

Some favorite reads, in no particular order:
- Autobiography of Red, Anne Carson
- Swordspoint, Ellen Kushner
- Juniper, Monica Furlong
- The Perilous Life of Jade Yeo, Zen Cho

Happy holidays Mur! I hope you've had a great start for this year!

I have some book recs for you :D

My favorite book right now is The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams: a trilogy in five parts. It's a wonderfully satiric sci-fi story about god, the universe, and everything.

The second favorite, sometimes favorite is also a classic: Flowers for Algernon by Daniel Keyes. Which is about a mentally disabled man named Charlie who enters an experimental quest for intelligence accompanied, and mirrored, by a lab rat named Algernon. It's a riveting, bittersweet tale of the human mind, I highly recommend it.

My favorite novella is a Chronicle of a Death Foretold by Gabriel García Márquez, which is the story of a murder that everyone knew was going to happen that nobody stopped, told 27 years in fractions by the people who remember it.

My favorite short story collection is Trigger Warning by Neil Gaiman. I'm fond of all his books, but something about the stories in Trigger Warning touched me greatly. I also highly recommend the audiobook read by the author, I think he did a magnificent job on it.

As an note, I'll also add a couple of books that I'm particularly attached to: Alice isn't Dead by Joseph Fink, which is a queer, horror road trip and a superhero story (though the book doesn' say so), and Kafka on the Shore by Haruki Murakami, which is a surreal adventure about ghosts and prophecies.

Thanks so much for the recs! I’ve actually been meaning to read Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy for awhile! And I’ve heard good things about Alice Isn’t Dead too. Kafka on the Shore sounds so interesting, I’ll definitely check into that one.

HAPPY STOCKING TIME!!!!

Here's a tiny little thing for you, featuring some past internalized homophobia and small town america:

The wind rustled Tony’s hair and smelled like the fried chicken place next to the gas station he was filling up. Steve was inside, grabbing something to drink while they drove, and leaving Tony to people-watch. Based on the half-hearted waves and loud greetings, the majority of the gas station’s patrons seemed to know each other.

Tony couldn’t relate to the experience--he was a New Yorker through and through. Recognizing every neighbor at a gas station just didn’t happen. His bright red Mercedes AMG stood out next to the pick-up trucks and beaten down Lincolns. Even with comically large sunglasses, Tony was almost certain everyone knew who he was.

His head went crazy thinking of all the reasons no one had mobbed him for pictures yet. Only half of the things he thought of involved supervillains. He reached through the car’s open window and picked up the book Steve had been reading and tried to not let his mind drift to all the magazine covers that proclaimed his new relationship with Steve.

He felt exposed, that was all. It brought him back to when he was in boarding school and was terrified for weeks that everyone knew about him and Ty. It wasn’t supposed to be like that anymore, sure.

But the memory of that fear didn’t shake off as easily as Tony would have liked, and he jumped a little when Steve put a hand on his shoulder.

Tony slipped into the driver’s seat and took a quick look around the parking lot. One person seemed to be looking in his direction, but the way he cocked his head, Tony was sure he was admiring the car. Tony reached out for Steve’s hand over the gearshift. That helped. That helped a lot.

AHHHH thank you!!!! I love this. The description of the way the people all seemed to know each other is really so accurate to my daily experiences. Also I really like the way you wrote Tony’s fear. The fact that he would’ve been more comfortable being approached for pictures than being left alone because it just forces him to think about something that’s obviously on his mind and that’s he’s trying to ignore. He automatically thinks everyone is looking at him and not just seeing Tony Stark, but seeing Tony Stark who is now dating a man. That’s such a realistic fear and especially in a small town, where you’re in an outsider role. And I really love that Steve is his anchor essentially, that he immediately felt better when he could touch Steve. As soon as Steve is back he seems to have a much easier time realizing they’re most likely looking at his car rather than him specifically, or him with Steve.

Thank you again this was so nice <333

Ah, this is so cool. Just being inside Tony's perceptions of himself and the world around him so much, and it's sad how he has to be (or feels he has to be) so aware of his situation all the time. And only half because of supervillains. I love introspective pieces like this that give so much character insight!
