There's a plot point in one of those 1960s Marvel prose novels where Tony lies to a villain and claims that a lot of different people are Iron Man, and that one of those people is Captain America. So: Steve has to fill in as Iron Man and be Tony's bodyguard because for some strange reason Iron Man can't just accompany Tony to this fancy event. For maximum identity porn shenanigans, the other Avengers think he is the Real Iron Man and tell him a bunch of things they would never have told Steve. Hey, Shellhead, were you ever gonna tell Cap about that crush you had on him?
Let's give Steve some impotence! Steve needs a broken dick too.
Piercings! Use your imagination.
Surely Steve didn't mean to sext Tony. Or did he?
Established relationship Steve and Tony roleplay as their early canon selves.
Due to some kind of magic spell or something, Steve and Tony cannot touch! But they also cannot be far apart. They have to stay in the same room and cannot touch each other at all! What a terrible time to realize you're in love with someone. Hard mode: Commander Rogers.
Early canon. Tony is being blackmailed either because he's sleeping with Steve specifically or because he's generally been queer with other guys. There are pictures. Tony's been paying. Steve finds out.
Bodyswap! Fun possibilities include: Ye olde "are you jerking off in my body" trope. For some reason we have to pretend we are not bodyswapped and Tony is really terrible at giving speeches about freedom to Steve's Nazi villains (Steve is also bad at flying Tony's suits). Steve being concerned that Tony's physical experience of life feels so terribly painful. Tony feels terrible about it because it turns out there are other ways it is bad to be him, like, Steve now no longer has an eidetic memory and also is not enjoying having a normal refractory period and Tony is miserable because he was pretty sure his brain and his dick were the only things he had going for him. Steve's just out here like "I still ~~love you~~ respect and admire you but why do I need to drink three cups of coffee before I can function? This is so inconvenient."
Twilight: Sad Twilight Brain Jar Tony gets a hug. From Steve.
Pick a kink that you think is really unusual, extreme, or hardcore and do the absolute most loving and tender version there could ever be.
Fall of X AU where Tony is still pretending to be drunk at the Hellfire Club and Hydra Steve (either as Captain Krakoa or just himself, dealer's choice) starts visiting (possibly as a guest of Feilong) and Tony has to be nice to him while dying inside a lot.
Steve cannot stop thinking about Tony being queer after Tony comes out to him and decides that all of his weird feelings and his jealousy are clearly a sign of homophobia and Being A Bad Ally and he needs to work on his issues and stop imagining what kissing Tony is like.

I am totally 100% fine with Very Bad Things Happening To Steve And Tony but I would prefer them not actively trying to harm each other (accidental harm is definitely fine, including mind control), although people who look like them (e.g., Hydra Steve, Skrulls) trying to harm them is fine.

No permanent major character death, please (unless the death is canon, like Twilight). Ambiguous or bittersweet endings are fine (as well as happy endings); I would prefer to not have something ending in unremittingly bleak everyone-dies darkness.

I always enjoy pictures of dragons, cute dogs and/or wolves, as well as horses and horse-adjacent mythological creatures.

I also always enjoy book/comic/game/TV/movie recs for LGBT science fiction/fantasy. (Or LGBT history/general nonfiction.)

Video game recs of any sort would be great. I have a Mac and a Switch (and an iPhone and iPad). I like games that you don't have to have good hand-eye coordination to play, like turn-based RPGs, deckbuilders, or puzzle games. (Action games are okay if they are playable one-handed.)

I would enjoy some DW-sized (100 x 100 px) icons of comics (especially ones of amusing speech bubbles).

I think it really does look a whole lot like the comic -- I can see the similarities to Acuña's style in the kind of blocky way the brushwork looks (am sorry, I do not know Art Words) and the character styles themselves and the colors! Really impressive!

This feels like it could have been a missing page right from that rooftop scene! It is so gorgeous and I keep looking at it in awe. It also captures the pathos of Twilight to me where they just CAN'T TOUCH (I think I have imprinted on this from Kirk/Spock, lol) and they desperately want to. I love the idea that Tony can still feel the warmth of Steve's hands through the jar even though they can't touch -- I never thought of that before and now I am just going to keep thinking about it, possibly forever and ever. <3

The rooftop scene was already so freaking good, so many feelings.
I really love Acuña's style, so this was a joy (and pain) to try and recreate.

Twilight is such an amazingly angsty canon, and I can't say no to a sad brain jar Tony. Tony with more body modification he didn't ask for, and a robot body?? hell yes. And YESSS, the whole "CAN'T TOUCH" makes it just so good. the LONGING! The YEARNING!

The first Tony jar, where Steve takes him from would probably be too big and well insulated - but with how small the jar is? And his head still being organic? WARMTH is already so good to feel, but it's still not QUITE a touch ;_; MY HEART!
(That said, since it's not the same jar as the one before... they must have taken him out of the jar to put him into the new one? How dangerous/damaging do you think that is for Tony? Do you think in the few moments where they transferred him, Steve was self-indulgent enough to touch his cheek? Would Tony be awake for such a transfer? I haven't really thought about the fact that it's a different jar, and now I suddenly have many thoughts about that...)

You also asked for games - have you ever tried marvel champions? it's a living card game you can play cooperatively with friends, or alone. I like it a lot, and it's playable online. In this case Steve is not involved in the photos – they're not together yet. Steve gets on with Iron Man, he's on the fence when it comes to Tony. The photos sure are compromising. Tony gets to ruminate on this and other unhappy topics whenever he charges his chestplate. And if you're famous in the early '60's, you want to keep your blackmailer happy, in case they decide to sell those photos on to someone more powerful...

Hi, sine!<3 Happy belated new year and Valentine's Day. For video game recs, a friend recommended Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective, which is a puzzle adventure game by the guy who made Ace Attorney. I haven't played AA, but I played a little bit of Ghost Trick and it's a LOT of fun! I think you'll have fun. It's about an amnesiac ghost with supernatural powers, and his journey to rediscover his identity. It's on Steam and Switch!

There's a new narrative-heavy game called Lost Records: Bloom & Rage that just came out, and a longtime mutual I know is utterly enamored with it and her enthusiasm made me curious so I'm going to check it out. I don't know much about it, but she has good taste in games and it's set in 1995, following a group of girls (who are queer? Or at least one or two are?). Copying and pasting the summary from Steam here: "Film your summer of 1995 and create memories of a lifetime with your new friends. 27 years later, confront the dark secrets that made you all promise to never speak again after that fateful summer."

And I don't think this is what you're thinking of for LGBT science fiction/fantasy, but I highly recommend All of Us Strangers. There's a fantastical element to it, and it's so beautiful and it'll break your heart and heal it (I ugly cried A LOT haha). It's one of my favorite movies ever, and I want everyone to see it. Here's the summary:

One night in his near-empty London tower block, screenwriter Adam has a chance encounter with mysterious neighbor Harry, puncturing the rhythm of his everyday life. As a relationship develops between them, Adam finds himself drawn back to his childhood home, where his parents appear to be living just as they were on the day they died 30 years ago.

Left-hander Tony Stark and the New York Avengers are in agreement on a one-year, $15 million contract, sources told ESPN on Monday. The former Yankee star returns to New York to join the crosstown rivals.

"I keep my promises - 🥌🧔🏻" Stark teased on his Instagram story, before the deal was announced.

The deal includes an additional $1.5 million in performance bonuses, sources said.

Stark's accolades should speak for themselves: Rookie of the Year, two-time Cy Young winner, two-time Gold Glove, and four-time All-Star. In his remarkable 2018 Cy Young-winning season, he posted a 1.96 ERA over 192 innings. Stark's fastball averaged 97, and his slider had a compelling argument for being the best in the world. The then-best pitcher in the game accomplished one of its rarest achievements by throwing a perfect game against the Blue Jays on June 16, the 24th in the history of the Major Leagues.

But, in a show of irony for the "Iron Man", his most memorable moment in the game's brightest spotlight left an entirely different legacy.

In Game 7 of the 2019 World Series, Stark, then the undisputed ace of the Yankees rotation, came out of the bullpen in the bottom of the 10th inning to face the top of the San Francisco Mutants order to preserve a 1-run lead. He struck out his first batter faced, and got the second to fly out to center. The pieces were in placed for the Yankees' first World Series win this century. The next few fateful minutes, however, saw the tower of cards topple. Stark issued a walk, followed up shortly by an uncharacteristic balk, his first ever committed in the Major Leagues. But New York was still set to celebrate, when Stark induced a slow roller groundball to his right: an easy put-out to first base. But Stark bobbled the ball in his throw to first, and was beat out by the runner. The 2018 Golden Glove winner was charged with an error, and faced his next batter with runners on first and third. Baseball history was created out of Stark's nightmare, as he gave up a walk-off 3-run home-run to blow the save, and the World Series.

The next season, Stark didn't make it to his first start of Spring Training, leaving the field after warm-ups. The news soon followed that he would be out for the season with a torn UCL necessitating his second Tommy John surgery.

In 2021, Stark returned to the New York Yankees and allowed a dreadful 6.01 ERA in 12 starts. The former ace was designated for assignment before the All-Star Break, and cleared waivers to be optioned to the minor leagues. It was unthinkable for someone who was once baseball's first overall pick in the draft, and no. 1 prospect.

Many pitchers struggle to regain their form after a second elbow reconstruction, oftentimes losing a few crucial ticks in velocity. But, beyond the unsurprising dip in his fastball speed, many also believed Stark to be battling a case of the yips. In his 2021 season, his walk rate soared, he threw more wild pitches than his prior three seasons combined, and he committed the most errors for any pitcher in the AL. The yips, and its causes, are as mysterious as they are aggravating to athletes and fans of any professional sport. But, it was hard for fans not to hone in on that fateful Game 7 tenth inning, and divide Stark's seemingly Hall of Fame-bound career before, and his struggles to remain relevant in the Major Leagues after.

2021 marked Stark's fall from glory on the diamond. But, unthinkable tragedy struck off the field. Stark's father and mother, Howard and Maria Stark of Stark Industries, died in a car crash on October 30. It was the two-year anniversary of Stark's blown save.

In 2022, the then-free agent Stark turned down multiple multi-year offers from teams looking to refind his form, opting instead to sign a minor-league deal with the Yankees, with a non-roster invite to their spring training. However, a week before pitchers reported to camp, Stark took to Instagram to announce that he would not be participating in baseball for the season to focus on Stark Industries affairs as the sole heir to his late parents' company. He signed off his announcement with a promise: "Iron Man will return."

Stark did not return to baseball for the 2023 season. However, 2024 came with a surprise announcement that Stark would be taking his talents overseas, joining the NPB in a 1-year deal with the Hanshin Tigers. With the Tigers, Stark put up a servicable 3.39 ERA in 22 starts (The NPB trends toward a pitcher-dominated league.)

In 2025, 4 years after he last stepped foot on a Major League Baseball diamond, and 6 years after he was one of the brightest stars in the game, Stark fulfills his promise to return to the United States. He joins an up-and-coming Avengers team, headlined by catcher Steve Rogers and outfielder Thor, and joining a rotation that includes former-teammate right-hander James Rhodes. If the Avengers can get the best version of Tony Stark to the mound at Avengers Field, the team will be a serious contender to watch.

lysimache and she stopped me after the paragraph about the tragedy of Tony's WS G7 blown save in extras to complain for like five entire minutes about how Gerrit Cole apparently feels no shame for the moment in Game 5 last year where he failed to cover first and, she believes, lost the Yankees the series. So I think she is a fan of your universe here, presuming that Tony feels the appropriate amount of shame for his actions which I guess he does. (She does not read any Avengers fic except baseball AUs, pretty much.)

I am REALLY REALLY excited about Tony's future with the Definitely Not The Mets and I cannot wait to see how extremely normal he and his catcher Steve Rogers are going to be about each other. I'm sure it will be Very Normal. Honestly, I think you can already get away with pretty much anything; there are curated photo collections by actual sportswriters of Madison Bumgarner and Buster Posey hugging each other after WS wins with quotes about how this hug was the first time they told each other they loved each other. Also I have just finished reading an article about how Tarik Skubal has just bought his catcher and himself matching engraved Rolexes. So really I would believe anything.

(There was an r/baseball thread about what questions people have about baseball that they have never asked and someone asked "what do pitchers and catchers talk about during mound visits" and someone was like "I pitched in college and the catcher is mostly just trying to calm you down and help you relax and it's usually a lot of dirty jokes." I think about this a lot.)

I have read one book by Becky Chambers and I thiiiink it was that one? All the titles blend together. But I did like the one book and should probably read the others. I know I own and did not read Piranesi, but I did really like Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell so I think I will probably like this one too.
