Happy Stockings! It's been tons of fun to be sprinting with you, your humor and excellent emoji game really keep the mood up even while we all struggle! Thank you for your overall friendliness and for maintaining such a welcoming environment in the sprint channel. I remember being nervous before my first sprint, but now I just love hanging out there with y'all ❤️

I took a photo of our One Plant for you! It's a succulent called Schlumbergera aka Christmas Cactus. Its inner clock is very off though, so it hasn't bloomed this year yet.



Unfortunately, I don't have a pet, but my grandparents had a Wiener dog and she was the sweetest little dog ever! When she was still a puppy and I was also just a child, I took poor thing on a long walk, not taking into account that distance is harder on such short legs, so tiny me had to carry her long body all the way back as she refused to walk home 😂

Happy belated Valentine's Day, Di! Here are some easy recipes that aren't fussy:

- blueberry muffin bread - soft and moist and less annoying to make than individual blueberry muffins
- creamy chickpea soup - I try to avoid recommending the same recipe to people in one year, but I have to share this with you because I've eaten this several times last year. It's so good
- cottage cheese lemon soufflé pancakes - a very easy way to make fancier pancakes (let me know if you can't access this recipe!)

Haha that's how I feel about banana bread too! And for the soup, I've added spinach before (and mushrooms though they're not veggies) and that was yummy. The recipe maker suggested roasted broccoli, zucchini, and cauliflower, and I think those will go well too! I feel like I've added zucchini before. Someone in the comments tried onions, carrots, etc. so it's very versatile.

In terms of sweet treats, I've never made better brownies than these ones. Using a can of sweetened condensed milk really does make them incredible--almost like tangy milk chocolate. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lhnzdRD-hX8

If you're more of a fan of dark chocolate, this is my mum's recipe for chocolate cake. It's really really good, and it's also accidentally almost gluten-free so you don't have to mess around when cooking for gluten-free people. 10/10

• 200g each butter, sugar, dark cooking chocolate, ground almonds
• 1 tablespoon flour
• 1 teaspoon level baking powder

• Pinch of salt

• Melt butter and chocolate together

• Add dry ingredients
• Add eggs one at a time
• Bake for 40mins at 160c

Hello starvels! Thank you for everything you've done for fandom over the past year.

I had an idea for your prompt: "A surgeon for a 616 NYC hospital has a very bad no good day having to treat the various supers of 616 NYC"

The story would be that this surgeon (call her Anya) was very excited to get a job at New York Presbyterian in the ER and is still new at it. Her colleagues like the enthusiasm but tell her that she hasn't had a real road test working in New York. She's done her share of emergencies during her rotations so how bad can it get?

She shows up for her Saturday shift and it starts at 2 pm when a Spider-kid shows up. Nothing that bad, but need bones set. A different spider-kid -- with the cops tagging behind with a suspect that needs medical attention in custody -- shows up an hour later with shrapnel injuries. Some basic stitches and wound care.

Anya overhears two nurses talking. "If it's like this at 4, it's going to get worse." The other nurse sighs, "Bet Night Nurse is on vacation -- she usually handles the minor cases and we never see 'em."

And the nurse was right -- it did get worse. Anya sees a huge cross section of the superhero community. There isn't a huge event like an alien invasion just a busy night fighting the criminal element. Anya cracks a joke, "Is there a crime convention in town?"

The older nurse, who has seen it all at this point, just shrugs. "City of over 8 million, there's going to be crime. If we were dealing with the Kree or Galactus, it'd much much worse."

A tech grins back and says, "Nah, it's worse if Doctor Strange shows up in the waiting room."

The nurse groans and says, "If that happens, I'm on break in Tahiti."

Anya looks at the tech who says, "He's a real doctor -- you guys are the worst when you need treatment."

It's finally 2:30 am -- and nothing good ever really happens after midnight in the ER -- and Anya is dragging. She is being held together by coffee, protein bars and the promise of looking for quieter job once she's had sleep for 24 hours.

The nurse pops her head into the break room door, "Hey Doc, dislocated shoulder issue. Bay 4. Adult male, 30."

Anya perks up a this -- should be easy.

In Med 29 there are in fact two men -- the patient, as described adult male, 30, presenting a shoulder injury. He's dark-haired with facial hair, and still in sweatpants and a ratty shirt covered in stains -- Anya thinks she might know him. The other man -- hovering over the patient so he's either a relative or a boyfriend -- is blond, heavily built, and definitely fussing over the patient. "Come on, just let the doctor see you."

"We should have gone to Night Nurse," the patient complains.

"She's on vacation and we're not going to bother Doctor Strange with this," the blond says firmly.

Anya pulls up the chart and checks the name. Tony Stark. The Tony Stark. She sighs. She's dealt with so many superheroes and supervillain so far tonight that she's expecting to find the guy bleeding out or something. It couldn't just be a dislocated shoulder. She plasters a smile on her face and gets ready for the worst. "Hello, Tony Stark? Mr Stark or Tony?"

"Tony is fine. This is Steve." Tony points at the other man.

Right. Captain America. He didn't need medical attention. So she put him in the Patient Support Person category and focussed on Tony. "So what's the problem?"

Tony said, "I fell in the bathroom and hit my shoulder. I'm pretty sure I dislocated it. It's fine but someone -" he pokes Steve - "insisted I get medical help."

It keeps going on like that. Tony's shoulder is dislocated but for reasons that aren't exactly a fall in the bathroom. Tony and Steve aren't exactly telling people that they are dating so they ask Anya to keep it quiet.

She's happy to end the day on a simple shoulder fix.

tangentially related but have you seen the pitt? its such a good realistic look into ER life, well acted and thoughtful, not over dramatic. definitely rec, if you're into those kinda shows.
