Post EG handwavy fix-it future fic, pining Steve and getting together

[personal profile] ishipallthings 2023-02-27 05:43 pm (UTC)(link)
https://archiveofourown.org/works/45376348

Summary:

Steve lets out an exasperated huff. “It’s just, I can’t shave.” It’s such a small thing to be upset about, and yet here he is, fighting the urge to tear his bandages just to look clean-shaven again.

One glance at Tony shows that he’s surprised by Steve’s admission, eyes now fixed on the days-old scruff covering the bottom half of Steve’s face.

(In which Tony helps Steve with shaving, and the close proximity leads to so much more than either of them anticipated.)

Hi! :D

You asked for casual computer/Switch game recs, and I can provide some! Well, one. The game I spent all of last year playing nonstop is Vampire Survivors, a bullet-hell roguelike but basically it's a game where you walk around and shoot things, except you don't have to do the shooting, the game does the shooting for you. So basically you walk around and everything dies. And at first that includes you, but as you play the game more you can unlock various weapons and then eventually get to the point where you wander around and absolutely everything around you is destroyed, which is very satisfying if you want to just kind of zone out with a game for a bit.

It does not contain vampires.

It has spawned a bunch of imitators, if you liked the genre, and they're all like $5 on Steam, including VS itself.

The other game I play a lot of (on both Switch and computer) is Dicey Dungeons, which is a dice-based RPG. I feel like maybe I've recced this to you? It's sort of like Slay the Spire but with dice instead of cards. (Oh, yeah, definitely play Slay the Spire if you like RPGs and have not.) It's very charming and easy to play and has a lot of content and different character classes and challenges.

Thanks, sine! :D Funny that the game has "vampire" in the title, but it doesn't have vampires in the game. That sounds hilarious so I'll check it out, Dicey Dungeons, and Slay the Spire. I need a mental break and these sound like good stress relievers!

So Sea, have you heard of this little series called Umineko no Na-gets shot :'D anyway! Thank you again for an awesome year of friendship and squeeing over Steve/Tony! And you know that I always enjoy seeing you squee over all your other favorite series (I will watch past the first season of Succession soon, I promise!)

My comfort watches from this past year still remaisn The Return of Superman. I also watched like, every Great British Bake-Off season on Netlix last year.

For cool places, I guess I will talk about one of my personal favorite national monuments I've been! Lava Beds National Monument is the least visited national park in California, and it's pretty low on the overall national list too. It's pretty remote, right along the California/Oregon border and you only go there for one reason: caving! :D There's over 800 lava tube caves there, and about 25 of them have been cleaned out and officially put on a map for you to explore. But you explore all of them on your own! I tell people it's pretty much Caving For Beginners because you can go with just a flashlight, and preferably a hard hat and long sleeved clothes/pants, and maybe some elbow/knee protection for the more "difficult" rated caves, but otherwise you don't really need to have all that expensive spelunking equipment or experience. Going there has inspired me to try to go to more caves because it was so much fun :D and I always want to go back! If you walk around the park/desert area, you could even stumble upon random caves that aren't on the "official" map and you're free to go in and check it out!

Also, I do not think you have met Kumo, yet! He is my kitty I adopted earlier this month :D he's named Kumo because it's a way to say both "spider" and "cloud" in Japanese, and it fits his black/white look :)

Okay. So. I had a whole comment written out that I lost because I wanted to see pictures of Kumo again after already looking at him (no, I have NOT met Kumo yet!) and in my excitement, I forgot that clicking the link will redirect me to the image instead of opening the image in a new tab lmaooooo. Anyway, I love his little white splotches! I love black cats! He's perfect. I want to know everything about him. How old is he? What's he like?

Haha I need to finish Umineko! I'm so bad at finishing stuff on the computer, and I forgot to continue after getting to the island and taking a break. This always happens to me. ToT BUT I will finish! I should set a recurring reminder on my phone.

Succession may not be your thing and if it isn't, that's okay. But if you enjoyed the first season, the second and third are even better.

Thank you SO much for the Lava Beds National Monument rec! I never heard of it before so I'm really excited because of that and your description. Caves are interesting and after Veldeia talked about cave exploration adventures years ago, I've remained fascinated. I don't know if there are caves near me (maybe? I never Googled lol), but this sounds like the perfect level for me and doesn't seem scary at all hehe. :') I'll have to make a pit stop if I'm ever in the area. I'll have to make my way to California or Oregon!

THE RETURN OF SUPERMAN IS MY COMFORT SHOW FOREVER. Little babies make me happy and I watch clips whenever I miss some of them and I want to feel mushy. And I need to watch GBBO beyond random clips here and there on Youtube.

Thanks for the recs and Kumo pics!<3 And of course, most of all, your friendship.<3

Rec for casual games: A Building Full of Cats. Exactly what it says on the tin and developed by a studio fully-staffed by cats :P https://store.steampowered.com/app/1969080/A_Building_Full_of_Cats/ It's a hidden object game. Very short, but super super cute and really well-done, as a veteran of the Hidden Object Games Wars of the 2000s.

And in weird, unusual places: https://campanopolis.com.ar/ Campanapolis - or that one time a rich self-made Argentinian guy decided to build a Medieval village out of construction refuse in the middle of Argentina's largest working-class suburb.

I loveeee hidden object games and little cats so thanks for the rec!<3 And wow, Campanapolis is mind-blowing. I can't believe that's made out of construction refuse. How!?!??!? And it's in a suburb?! I wasn't expecting those images. I'm going to take a closer look at everything on the site and if I'm ever in Buenos Aires, it's a must-see place for me. Buenos Aires (and Argentina!) has been on my list of places I want to go to for years and yearssssssssssssssss now, so I'm desperate to go one of these days. I actually thought of studying abroad there at one point long ago, but I didn't and wish I met people who did. One of these days!

https://www.devcatsgames.com/ and a link to the studio page because IT'S ADORABLE.

It's a weiiiiird place because it's like THE working-class suburb. Around 6% of Argentinians live there (to bring it up to the team, Leandro Paredes and Gonzalo Montiel are from there). And in the middle of it, bam, fake Medieval village.

Hopefully you will! I totally promise to be your guide!

Happy stocking day!

I have a few sff recs for you. I’ve rec’d sff on stockings a few times before so I apologize if these are ones I’ve rec’d to you before:

G. Willow Wilson, The Bird King - this is also the author of Ms. Marvel. I’m utterly enchanted by the storytelling and worldbuilding in this one.

China Miéville, Embassytown - this book takes awhile to get going for me, but once it does, I can’t put it down. I’ve read it at least 3 times. It examines what it means for an alien language to be really, truly alien, and what it would mean to breach the communication barriers with those aliens.

Jo Walton, Among Others - I don't think I can describe this in a way that will do it justice so I'll just tell you the basics. The main character is a disabled Welsh girl who loves sff and can communicate with spirits, and she faces moving to a new town, living without her twin, and her magical, abusive mom.

Thanks so much for these recs! I haven't read any of them nor do I know any of them (other than The Bird King, which I borrowed from the library right before the pandemic hit and then never got to read it before I had to return it) which makes them all the more tantalizing.
